Making Inventory Inactive

Making an inventory item inactive will prevent it from being sold at the invoice screen.  This is often preferable to deleting an item, as you can still see sales and purchase history on inactive items and the description will print should you need to reprint an older invoice.  (If an item is deleted, only the product ID will print when you reprint an invoice.)

To set an item inactive, select Inventory Inventory from the Main Menu.  You will then see the inventory screen. Locate the product.  (See Navigating Records.)  Press [Alt]+F7]. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to make the product inactive.  Select Yes to make the product inactive, or No to leave the product active.

You can easily tell an inactive product at the inventory screen because the ID, Description, UOM, and UPC will be grayed out.   If you enter an inactive item onto an invoice, you will get a message that you cannot sell inactive items.  Additionally, if you use the [F4] grid view at an invoice, the product ID of any inactive items will be preceded with an *.

Reactivating a Product

Simply repeat the above procedure to reactivate an item previously set as inactive.
